Office 2010 September 2, 2010 Kik 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I made the dramatic leap from Office XP (2003) straight to the Beta version of Office 2010. I admit that I did spend a fair amount of energy for a few days in coming to terms with the new ways of selecting options but it was worth it as the new product does have useful new features. Once the release version came out, and I got fed up with the known bugs in the Beta version, I decided to buy the supported version. A good decision, as it appears to be much more robust than the Beta version or my earlier, prehistoric version. In addition, it was simple to install (I run Windows 7) and runs fast. No regrets and no refunds needed, this time!
Great Value August 30, 2010 Pam (Suffolk, England) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Originally looking for Outlook alone, but found I was able to purchase together with Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Onenote, which I do not have on my Windows 7 Laptop, for this very reasonable price.
The new layout is very different to the earlier versions I am used to working with, but I'm sure I will get the hang of it in time.
Pleasantly Surprised August 6, 2010 L. Alexander (London) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
It is always a leap into the dark to buy a new MicroSoft product. Generally I wait at least 5 years so that they can sort out the bugs first. However, I have to say that I am very impressed with this package. Once you get used to the new layout and menus, they are actually very well organised and make more sense than the applications in Office 2003. There are also some much improved tools to use. It integrates very well with Windows 7 (and so it should!) Overall, I am very pleased.
Much better than i expected July 31, 2010 cavehomme (Europe) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I resisted the upgrade from office 2003 to 2007 because i simply hated the ribbon interface and i did not want to have to learn a very dumbed down interface, take additional mouse clicks, search in new places for functions where i knew where already to search instinctively.
However, I recently needed to replace my laptop with a Windows 7 one and i installed my copy of Office 2003 on it. Unfortunately MS have made sure it does not work 100%, particularly Outlook with Connector installed to access hotmail and live accounts. MS always do this, they eventually frustrate the user and force them to upgrade. I had no option but to do so since my email refused to work properly despite my best tech efforts.
The price of this version at the time was discounted quite significantly so that helped the decision to buy. You can install it on 2 computers, not 3 as someone else mentioned. But this can only effectively be 1 desktop and 1 on a laptop. I did not fully read the license but my guess is that you cannot actually run both concurrently, but that's not a problem for me.
Well, when it arrived i feared the worst in terms of function confusion and horrible ribbon interface, but i was really very surprised at a much more logical and improved ribbon. Sure, it a few days or longer to get used to it after office 2003, but eventually you realise that it does make a lot of sense and you actually find some things readily accessible that were buried away. However, some common features are still an extra mouse click away, but overall i do now prefer 2010 to 2003. The best improvement for me is in Outlook with better task management and calendars, although the connection to gmail imap is strangely slower than it was in 2003, but i guess that's an incentive to switch to live hotmail! I like the previous of email attachements within the window of the message, very useful.
I could write a whole detailed review but simply do not have the time but thought i would share my personal general impressions with anyone interested in hearing how an experienced IT user who was highly sceptical then was actually pleasantly surprised by this decent upgrade. Well done MS...finally. You would get 5 stars had you not forced people to upgrade.
MS Office 2010 Home and Business July 22, 2010 Dr. G. C. Pietzsch (UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Have migrated recently from Office XP PRO SP3 to Office 2010 Home and Business. I have used mainly Word, Outlook and PowerPoint so far and my experience is excellent. But it is yet again a learning curve how to use the software as it is very different from previous versions. In particular PowerPoint requires a lot of getting used to, but the new facilities and options are great. The layout of Outlook is equally so much better than before. In combination with Windows 7 OS this is a very good package and I fail to understand why computer companies pre-install standard Windows 7 Home Premium, which is crap when you are used to XP PRO, because it misses essential functions and Office 2010 Home & Student, which again requires registration as a student and even then is a curtailed version of Office 2010 with many limitations.
Overall I think Microsoft has again a winner with Office 2010, but do not take the cheap options, but take at least the Home and Business version.
