Amazon.co.uk Review "Release the Kraken!" Ah, it could only be Clash of the Titans, the 2010 remake that retains the instruction to unleash the great beastie from the sea. The 1981 original boasted Ray Harryhausen's legendary stop-motion technique of animating various mythological creatures--it was his final feature project--and given the cornball approach of the movie in general, that was the main draw. The remake supplies new state-of-the-art special effects (released theatrically in 3-D) and a nicely muscular sense of momentum. Sam Worthington (the Avatar guy) plays Perseus, a demigod who doesn't know that Zeus (Liam Neeson) is his father. Perseus is selected to lead an expedition to find and slay the Medusa, lest Zeus's evil brother Hades (Ralph Fiennes, in fine slinking mode) rain down misery upon a seaport--and you just know that means the Kraken is coming. Ye gods, it's a mess, and we haven't even mentioned the witches and the harpies and the giant scorpions. But if we did, it would be clear that Clash of the Titans is a perfectly dandy popcorn epic, unpretentious and punchy. Director Louis Leterrier (Transporter 2) gets a fine rhythm going during Perseus's trek, and you can even forgive the hokey shafts-of-light-through-clouds look of Olympus. Leterrier also had the good sense to import the marvelous Danish star Mads Mikkelsen to provide mentoring duties to Perseus; Gemma Arterton and Alexa Davalos fulfill the eye-candy roles. It's up to individual viewers to choose which they prefer--Harryhausen's magically hand-wrought creations (his Medusa sequence is an absolute killer) or the 21st century's slick computer-generated variations. But nostalgia aside, it would be hard to deny that this is one case where the remake tops the original. --Robert Horton

Clash of the Titans September 9, 2010 L. A. Northgraves (UK) I received this DVD very promptly and it arrived well packaged.
I am a little disappointed with this DVD. In comparison with the original, I felt the Sam Worthington portrayed no emotion/charisma to the part of Perseus, in fact it was like watching Phil Mitchell running around in gladiator type costumes. He didn't fall in love with Andromeda, ~ a major part of this story, and the very reason he wanted to save Argos from it's fate. Having said that, the special effects were really good, especially Medussa and the Titan. If you want a love story with a happy ending amidst all the action, then this is not the DVD for you. Sam doesn't really show much affection at all, although he does fall for the woman who was sent to watch over him, not convincingly though. No I'm afraid I didn't really enjoy this, give me the original anyday!
Almost as good as the original........?? September 8, 2010 rob sumpter I am old enough to have watched the original the first time around, a great film I have always remembered from my childhood. In fact one of only a relatively few films I have watched more than twice.
I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed the new film. Whilst not identical to the original it retained the good bit, the story, and improved on the special effects.
If you like fantasy films with a bit of an edge eg.300 you will like this.

O, dear. the yanks have done a psycho-babble to Greek legends and failed terribly...
The original was far better, included more of O's journeys and horrors. by modern cgi standards they may have been a bit hammy, bit did i fall asleep during Clash of the ..who? Titans...a brief explanation was given near start but from then on the film went downhill...FAST!
It was boring and only gravity to it to some ending. What happened to the cheeky OWL? Athena's pet doesn't get a look in cf. with original.
Sorry, Boringwood: must try harder. Greek knowledge -or no-lidge!- 2/10. CGI, 7/10, Context 4/10.
Overall, I want my money back! What a waste of a couple of hours!
does what is says on the tin. September 4, 2010 Mr. J. A. Wells 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
If you looking for award winning performaces, a gritty plot to get your teeth into, stunning back drops then look away now. This film was made to entertain and it does just that.
this is a great sunday lazy afternoon film where you can just sit back and enjoy whats infront of you. the plot is feble yes but sometimes you want a film where you dont have to think about the plot or if youve missed anything.
This film is all about the special effects which are great in places. I think this movie will find a home in the 'B' movies bracket and may even become a cult hit in years to come.
I expect a re-release in 3D format at somepoint next year to cash in on the 3D market so you might be better suited waiting.
If you dont expect too much then this film will deliver.
